Southampton vs Man City kit clash "ridiculous" as fans struggle to tell players apart

Fans tuning into Southampton's Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Manchester City were left fuming over the kit clash between the two sides.

The Saints donned their usual home strip, a white shirt that boasts a large red stripe down the middle of it alongside black shorts with white socks. City, however, sprung a surprise by wearing their outlandish third kit, which is a lime green and grey hooped number that accompanies dark grey shorts and lime green socks.

While the kits are different, Manchester City's shirts are such a sharp shade of lime that they looked strikingly similar to Southampton's white kit on TV.

Fans on Twitter certainly made their feelings clear, with one user writing: "What a ridiculous kit clash we have tonight at St. Mary's."

Another echoed their sentiments by adding: "Why can't teams just go back to wearing their first kit until there's a clash? What is this stupid trend of wearing second kits even when they clash worse than the first!? The heck are Man City doing for goodness sake? First kit should be used at every possible chance."

One fan wondered whether it was a case of just adjusting their television set or was the clash really that bad as they tweeted: "Is it just me / the TV I'm watching the game on, or is there a truly terrible colour clash between Southampton and Man City's kits tonight?"

Another wrote: "Am I the only person that thinks this Man City and Southampton game is an awful kit clash on tv?! Looks awful from the far angle."

There have been plenty of questions over why City didn't simply wear their own home kit, which doesn't clash with Southampton's home strip.

Guardiola's side of course more often than not wear a sky blue shirt with white shorts and socks the same colour as the shirt. Yet for some reason, this was deemed too near Southampton's usual strip.

When the two teams met at the Etihad earlier this season, Southampton wore their dark green away strip, but in previous campaigns City have arrived at Saint Mary's wearing their usual sky blue number.

One fan included a colour-blind charity in their angry tweet as they wrote: "@colourblindorg another match ruined, this time between @SouthamptonFC and @ManCity in the Carabao Cup.

"Will we ever get a time when they will select kits that are a completely different contrast? When they are all in the box it's next to impossible. Absolute joke of a clash."
