Southampton dealt big blow ahead of Manchester United with Nathan Redmond injury update

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed his side will be without Nathan Redmond again as they make the trip to Manchester United on Saturday.

Redmond was missing for the Saints’ dramatic 3-2 win over Tottenham in midweek, having sustained an ankle injury in training before the fixture in North London.

He had been hoped to be able to make a recovery in time for the weekend’s clash at Old Trafford, but he will miss coming up against United as Southampton look to make it three league games unbeaten after impressive results against Spurs and Manchester City.

Redmond joins midfielder Nathan Tella, goalkeeper Alex McCarthy and defender Lyanco on the sidelines, with the latter those three suffering a big blow after being ruled out for up to three months with a hamstring injury.

There is some better news for Southampton though, with Tino Livramento fit enough to make his return after missing the win over Tottenham.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Hasenhuttl said: "Reddy [Nathan Redmond] is still out, Tino [Livramento] is back and he is an option for tomorrow.

"We will have a look at what we want to do and what is possible, but we have some alternatives for this position."

Speaking about coming up against United, Hasenhuttl added: “For us, it is tough to go there and win. Don’t underestimate us, but they are still the favourite in this game. We need a very good [performance].

"Their targets are high and expectations also, so far the results have been good in some moments, not perfect in others, but they are in touch with the Champions League spots and this is what this team should normally get with the quality they have got.

"We just played against Man City and Tottenham, and I am sure we will need a similarly good performance against them."
