Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl responds to speculation linking him to Manchester United

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has dismissed talk linking him with a move to Manchester United.

The Austrian was tipped as a possible contender for the Old Trafford hot seat as his side managed to claim a point against United last weekend.

United legend Paul Scholes and former England boss Glenn Hoddle suggested Hasenhuttl should be in the frame to become the next permanent United boss, with the club looking to make an appointment in the summer.

The pair pointed towards the Southampton manager's relationship with Ralf Rangnick after the pair worked together at RB Leipzig.

Hoddle said: "Would that not be a good fit? For me, if they’ve worked so closely together, if he’s going to be the sporting director eventually - that works.

"He’s doing an excellent job. If he wanted it, it would make sense."

Scholes added: "The type of football has worked for them. His teams have been good to watch, I think it comes across really well.

"The more I think about it, I don’t think it would be a bad thing. The way he goes about his business, he looks good."

However, Hasenhuttl has brushed off talk of him taking over at Old Trafford.

“This is not in my mind, and also not the things that are interesting me,” Hasenhuttl said during his pre-match press conference ahead of Southampton’s home clash with Everton.

“I don’t want to speak about my future every week, last week we spoke about something different, and this week we shall speak about our game, what we have now against Everton.

“This is more interesting for me, and my whole energy and my whole focus is on this game, and everything else, I’ll leave it to you.”

Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag remain frontrunners to take over at United as the search for a new boss goes on.
