South Shields thug jailed for nine years for repeatedly kicking and stamping on man's head

A violent thug who repeatedly kicked and stamped on a man's head after a row outside a pub has been jailed.

Adam Pallister became involved with a man after he had been asked to leave the bar in Washington and they exchanged blows. However he then followed the victim, kicked him unconscious then kept kicking and stamping on his head - delivering around 20 blows with his foot.

The victim suffered a serious head injury and has been left with hearing loss and memory issues while his wife, who bravely lay across him to try to protect him, was also injured. Now Pallister, who admitted GBH with intent and assault after his trial had begun, has been jailed for nine years.

Sentencing him at Newcastle Crown Court, Judge Edward Bindloss told him: "This was not your fight. There was an argument in the pub and the complainant was asked to leave.

"You were outside behaving yourself at that stage and you were not drunk. There was a fracas between you and him off camera and when you came on camera he punched you and you punched him back. I accept there was some provocation here though not in any way enough to mitigate what happened next.

"You followed him down the street, put him to the ground and kicked and stamped on his head repeatedly, leaving him unconscious. His wife bravely threw herself over her husband. She could see he was in danger of significant injury from you.

"She was kicked to the leg and ankle by you. You then left the scene, leaving him unconscious on the ground."

The victim was left with a serious head injury which caused bleeding on the brain, a fracture under his ear which resulted in reduced hearing, fractures around his eye socket and two lacerations to his eyebrow.

In a victim impact statement, he said he now uses a hearing aid, has short term memory loss and headaches and migraines. His wife added that she was left with pain in her foot, which caused her issues at work and she could not wear shoes that had a hard top. She also has recurring thoughts about what happened, which makes her fearful.

Pallister, 30, of Stanhope Road, South Shields, pleaded guilty to GBH with intent on the man and assault occasioning actual bodily harm on the woman. Another man was found not guilty of taking part in the attack.

Pallister was also convicted of public order offences and driving while disqualifed and uninsured. Those offences related to him driving past his pregnant former partner and her friend and shouting things, including that he was going to burn her house down. He was also in breach of a previous suspended prison sentence for a police pursuit.

The court heard Pallister, a dad who worked as a joiner, was apologetic for his behaviour.
