Ice skating will be making a comeback this week on the same day that an annual parade is set to bring more festive entertainment for families.
The popular rink will be back in business at Ocean Beach Pleasure Park in South Shields on Friday, when keen skaters will be able to take to the ice from 3pm. On the same afternoon South Tyneside Christmas Parade will get under way and the park's food outlets will be selling the likes of Yorkshire pudding wraps and pigs in blankets.
And those who time it right will be in a prime spot to view the colourful parade while they're in the rink. Slots are available to book now - with skating available up to 7pm - and the parade will be making its way from Ocean Road along the sea front at around 5pm.

After December 9, the ice rink will be open throughout the festive season right up January 8. Some days during the run - December 12-16 and 19-22 - are being designated for exclusive use so that groups of up to 40 people, from companies to schools planning a festive outing, can enjoy having the rink to themselves.
Otherwise it will be open daily, save for Christmas Day, from 11am until 5pm. Christmas Eve opening will be slightly different, from 10am until 4pm, as will the New Year’s Eve's hours when skating will be from 11am until 4pm.
Michael Sheeran, operator at Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, said: “Skating is always associated with Christmas and is something people of all ages can enjoy. It was so popular when we did this last year that we knew we would bring it back.”
However, the fun fair rides at the park will not be available although families will be able to enjoy its other attractions of the arcades and venues such as Log Cabin Fisheries, Ocean Food Court and Scoop and Bean which will be serving festive food and hot drinks including mulled wine.
Those who want to book a skating session can do so online here. The cost will be £10 for adults and those aged 13 and over, and £8 for three to 12-year-olds. A family session for two adults and two children will be £30 and skate aids are also available at £5 each.
