A daughter struck her elderly mother to the head with a wine bottle after losing her temper.
Debra White was living with her 79-year-old mum, who is in frail health and has care provided to her on a daily basis. A court heard White had stopped taking strong anti-depressants of her own volition then started taking them again.
She ended up becoming abusive and assaulting her bed-ridden mother on January 13 this year, leaving her injured and afraid, Newcastle Crown Court heard. But after hearing of her mental health difficulties, a judge sentenced her to a community order.

Recorder Mark Giuliani told White: "Shortly after you started taking your medication again you lost your temper and were abusive to your mother and struck her on the head with a wine bottle, causing some bruising.
"Your mother says she's scared of you and one can see why because of your behaviour at that time. Your mother, due to her age, was vulnerable and this was a weapon."
White, 43, of Prince Edward Road, South Shields, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was sentenced to a 12 months community order with rehabilitation.
Fiona Lamb, defending, said: "She would love to see her at some point and make amends. It's a sad case, she's never been in trouble before, this is wholly out of character and she's incredibly remorseful.
"She said she can't remember anything about it. She doesn't drink, she came off anti-depressants without any medical assistance." The court heard White has been waiting more than two years to see a community psychiatric nurse and faces waiting a further two years.
