South Lanarkshire residents must register to vote by April 18 to vote in local council elections.
Register voters’ poll cards are scheduled to be sent out this week and must be completed by April 18 in order to vote in council elections on May 5. Eligible voters must be aged over 16.
If you are already registered to vote and are on the electoral register in South Lanarkshire, there is no need to re-register.
For the 20 wards in South Lanarkshire, there will be 64 councillors chosen.
To vote for your chosen councillor, you will be given one white ballot paper and will vote using numbers.
You will number the candidates in order of your preference starting with number one in the box next to the name of your first chosen candidate, you can make as many or as few choices as you want.
Actions are being taken by the council to ensure polling places are COVID-secure and people are being asked to follow physical distancing requirements and wear face coverings.
The deadline for new postal vote and postal proxy applications and for changes to existing postal or proxy votes is April 19 at 5pm.
To cancel existing postal or proxy votes, this must also be done by April 19 at 5pm.
The deadline for receiving new applications to vote by proxy in person is April 26 at 5pm.
