South Lanarkshire local election candidates have been confirmed

Scottish local elections are coming up and the list of candidates who are running in South Lanarkshire has been revealed.

The elections will be held on May 5 and voters can choose who they want to represent them in their wards.

For the 20 wards in South Lanarkshire, there will be 64 councillors chosen.

To vote for your chosen councillor, you will be given one white ballot paper and will vote using numbers.

You will number the candidates in order of your preference starting with number one in the box next to the name of your first chosen candidate, you can make as many or as few choices as you want.

South Lanarkshire residents must register to vote by April 18 to vote in local council elections. Eligible voters must be aged over 16.

Candidates who are running for each ward are as follows.

Ward 1 – Clydesdale West (four councillors to elect): Neil Barton (Scottish Greens), Poppy Corbett (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Lynsey Hamilton (Labour and Co-operative Party), Eileen Logan (Scottish Labour Party), Peter Charles Meehan (Scottish Liberal Democrats), David Shearer (Scottish National Party) and Andrew Wilson (Scottish National Party).

Ward 2 – Clydesdale North (three councillors to elect): Richard Lockhart (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Ronald Logan (Independent), Julia Marrs (Scottish National Party), Catherine McClymond (Scottish Labour Party) and John Scott (Independent).

Ward 3 – Clydesdale East (three councillors to elect): Alex Allison (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Ralph Barker (Scottish Labour Party), Eric Holford (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Gareth Kirk (Scottish Family Party), Ian McCallan (Scottish National Party), John Mclatchie (Scottish National Party), Nicholas Mark Tucker (Scottish Liberal Democrats) and Claire Elizabeth Watson (Scottish Greens).

Ward 4 – Clydesdale South (three councillors to elect): Ross Gowland (Scottish Labour Party), George Greenshields (Independent), Mark Horsham (Scottish National Party), Ross Lambie (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Janice McKay (UKIP), Colin McGavin (Independent), Ann McGuinness (Scottish Greens) and Imogen Walker (Scottish Labour Party).

Ward 5 – Avondale and Stonehouse (three councillors to elect): Erica Bradley Young (Scottish Greens), Gary Burns (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Margaret Cooper (Independent), Elise Frame (Scottish National Party), Susan Kerr (Scottish Labour Party), Colin Maclaren (Alba Party of Independence) and Leigh Payne (Scottish National Party).

Ward 6 – East Kilbride South (three councillors to elect): Archie Buchannan (Scottish National Party), Mathew Buchannan (Labour and Co-operative Party), Ross Gibson (Scottish Libertarian Party), Geri Gray (Scottish National Party), Iain Leckenby (Alba Party), Paul McGarry (Scottish Liberal Democrats), John Mckechnie (Scottish Greens), Patrick Nailon (Scottish Conservative and Unionist) Jonathan Richardson (Scottish Family Party).

Ward 7 – East Kilbride Central South (three councillors to elect): John Anderson (Scottish National Party), Rita Baillie (Alba Party for Independence), Lorna Cammock (Scottish Liberal Democrats), Gerry Convery (Scottish Labour Party), Alan James Cresswell (Scottish Greens), Alan Fraser (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), David Mackay (UKIP), Elaine McDougall (Scottish National Party) and Lisa Quarrell (Scottish Labour Party).

Ward 8 – East Kilbride Central North (three councillors to elect): Alex Brown (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Tom Bryson (Scottish Liberal Democrats), Joe Fagan (Scottish Labour Party), Grant Ferguson (Scottish National Party), Kristofer Keane (Independent), Hugh Macdonald (Scottish National Party) and Tam Mitchell (Scottish Labour).

Ward 9 – East Kilbride West (three councillors to elect): Ian Harrow (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Denise Hay (Scottish Family Party), Yvonne Mackay (UKIP), Monique Mcadams (Labour and Co-operative Party), Ali Salamati (Scottish National Party), Craig Sloan (Scottish National Party), David Watson (Independent) and Huaiquan Zhang (Scottish Liberal Democrats).

Ward 10 – East Kilbride East (three councillors to elect): Gladys Miller (Scottish National Party), Lorna Gall (Scottish Liberal Democrats), Robert Gillies (Scottish National Party), Graeme David Mullin (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Kirsten Robb (Scottish Greens), Graham Scott (Scottish Labour Party) and Jim Wardhaugh (Independent).

Ward 11 – Rutherglen South (three councillors to elect): Robert Brown (Scottish Liberal Democrats), Margaret Cowie (Labour and Co-operative Party), Alexandra Herdman (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Carol Nugent (Scottish National Party), Michael O’Hara (Scottish Family Party), Spencer Hugh Pryor (Independent) and Emma Jane Nicola Smith (Scottish Greens).

Ward 12 – Rutherglen Central and North (three councillors to elect): Gloria Adebo (Scottish Liberal Democrats), Janine Calikes (Scottish National Party), Andrea Cowan (Scottish National Party), Libby Fox (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Martin Patrick Lennon (Scottish Labour Party), Jack David Mcginty (Scottish Labour Party) and Alex Mcrae (Scottish Greens).

Ward 13 – Cambuslang West (three councillors to elect): John Bradley (Scottish National Party), Tom Alywin Lauckner (Scottish Greens), Ann Le Blond (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Norman Rae (Scottish Liberal Democrats), Gillian Sutherland (Scottish National Party) and Margaret Walker (Scottish Labour Party).

Ward 14- Cambuslang East (three councillors to elect): Robert Bell (Scottish Liveral Democrats), Walter Brogan (Scottish Labour Party), Amy Lee Fraioli (Scottish Labour Party), Alistair Fulton (Scottish National Party), Marie Gallagher (Scottish Greens), Muhammad Khuzaima (Alba Party), Jamie Logan (Scottish Conservative and Unionist) and Katy Loudon (Scottish National Party).

Ward 15 – Blantyre (three councillors to elect): Maureen Chalmers (Scottish National Party), Gerry Chambers (Scottish National Party), David Mcclemont (Scottish Greens), Calum Nimmo (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Mo Razzaq (Scottish Labour Party), Stephen Reid (Scottish Liberal Democrats) and Bert Thomson (Scottish Labour Party).

Ward 16 – Bothwell and Uddingston (three councillors to elect): Troy Davidson (Scottish Liberal Democrats), Cal Dempsey (Scottish National Party), Maureen Devlin (Scottish Labour Party), Kenny Mccreary (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Jim Mcguigan (Scottish National Party) and John Reid Stubbs (Scottish Greens).

Ward 17 – Hamilton North and East (three councillors to elect): Balarabe Baba (Independent), Colin Dewar (Scottish National Party), Martin Hose (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Davie Mclachlan (Labour and Co-operative Party), Andrew Reynolds (Scottish Liberal Democrats) and Phil Sykes (Scottish National Party).

Ward 18 – Hamilton West and Earnock (four councillors to elect): Mary Donnelly (Scottish National Party), Allan Falconer (Scottish Labour Party), Graham William Fisher (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Leonard Gingell (Scottish Greens), Graeme Horne (Scottish National Party), Jim Lee (Scottish Labour Party) and Mark Mcgeever (Scottish Liberal Democrats).

Ward 19 – Hamilton South (four councillors to elect): Gavin Wylie Keatt (Scottish Labour Party), Lynne Nailon (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), John Ross (Scottish National Party), Celine Handibode (Scottish Labour Party), and Helen Toner (Scottish National Party).

Ward 20 – Larkhall (four councillors to elect): Jackie Burns (Independent), Andy Carmichael (Scottish Labour Party), Ross Clark (Scottish National Party), David Laird (Scottish Libertarian Party), Donald Murdo Mackay (UKIP), Lesley McDonald (Scottish Labour Party), Richard Nelson (Scottish Conservative and Unionist), Jake Stevenson (Scottish Liberal Democrats) and George Sutherland (Scottish National Party).
