Hundreds of families across South Lanarkshire are being invited to take part in the council’s summer holiday programme this year.
Children from low-income families across the area are welcome to attend one of the 11 hubs based in primary schools and other locations across the area.
The hubs will deliver a targeted intensive two week programme which will run daily from 10 am until 2pm with lunch provided as well as breakfast for any children who need it.
Executive Director of Education Resources, Carole McKenzie, said: “We are pleased that we are able to offer another summer holiday programme this year which I hope will be welcomed by children and families.
“Building on the success of previous years, our staff will work tirelessly to give all children who attend a positive experience.
“Invitations to families have been issued after referrals from Head Teachers, from across the Youth, Family and Community Learning Service and via partners such as Social Work Resources, kinship carers, and the Housing and Technical Resources Resettlement Team.
“In addition to this planned provision delivered from the hubs, it should be noted that Universal Connections facilities and Youth Family and Community Learning Service Projects will be providing summer holiday programmed activities across the summer break.”
The programme is open to kids aged five to 14 from low-income in the most deprived areas who might not otherwise have access to activities, childcare, nutritious food or wider support during the school holidays.
Activities on offer will include arts and crafts, sports, team building, STEM sessions and outdoor play.
Two locations will specifically provide support to children and young people with additional support needs (ASN), one location is provided in partnership with the voluntary sector (Machan Trust) and the other location is Douglas Universal Connections.
The council provides a range of other support for low-income families, including direct payments to continue free school meal provision to those who are entitled to them during the school holidays.
