South Lanarkshire Council is thanking the public for their involvement in a consultation for Larkhall Leisure Centre.
The local authority received 1200 responses on the public consultation and it is now looking at how the feedback can shape the development of the new leisure centre and is continuing to explore available funding options.
Based on the findings, the council has started to look into developing the design of the building and investigating the ground conditions on the site.
The consultation highlighted that 90 per cent of respondents support investment in the new facility.
The consultation also rated facilities of the centre in order of importance – 78 per cent voted for swimming, 54 per cent voted for the fitness gym, 35 to 41 per cent voted for a games hall, health suite and multi purpose space and 27 per cent voted for school dryside facilities.
To make the project more deliverable, 71 per cent agreed or strongly agreed with improving access to games hall, gym hall, studio and changing facilities within Larkhall Academy.
And 96 per cent agreed that the new facility should be designed to minimise impact on the environment.
For future involvement, 55 per cent would like regular updates and 5 per cent would like to join a steering group on the project – who will be contacted in the near future by the council.
