South Lanarkshire Council proposes change of use to part of Lanark Racecourse

South Lanarkshire Council is looking for public feedback on its plans to change the use of a small site at Lanark Racecourse.

The local authority is planning on changing the use of a small part of the site at Lanark Racecourse to build a storage shed and a rural business centre with the intention of letting the building out to local community organisations.

The council is proposing to change the use and dispose part of its common good area - this includes an area of land extending to 0.14 hectares (0.35 acres) of land at Lanark Racecourse Hyndford Road, Lanark forming the site of a demolished stable block and currently occupied as landscaping and car parking area adjacent to the existing stabling at Lanark Loch Equestrian Centre.

The estimated site start for the works is October 2022, completing in March 2023.

A consultation has been launched for the council to gather comments from community councils, community bodies and the public on the proposed change of use and disposal of the racecourse.

Section 104 of the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 requires councils considering a disposal or change of use in respect of property held as part of the common good to publish details of the proposed disposal or change of use and to invite representations from the public to share views – this will be done through the consultation that has been launched.

All comments must be made in writing by emailing: commongood@southlanarkshire.gov.uk or posting to Head of Finance (Strategy), 4th Floor, South Lanarkshire Council, Council Offices, Almada Street, Hamilton, ML3 0AA.

The closing date by which comments must be received is September 14, comments received will be considered and responded by the council.

All comments and council responses will be published on the council’s planning portal.
