South Lanarkshire binmen set to strike over ongoing pay dispute

Industrial action is set to have an impact on waste services across South Lanarkshire.

Although a revised pay offer is expected from Cosla, planned strike action for this week and next is expected to go ahead.

The action means there will be no kerbside collections in any areas on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week (August 24, 25 and 26).

There will also be no collections on Monday, August 29, Tuesday, August 30 and Wednesday, August 31.

And South Lanarkshire Council (SLC) say they will "not be in a position" to "catch up" with work missed on these dates due to the industrial action.

Residents in the Rutherglen, Cambuslang and East Kilbride areas should only present their bins on September 1 and 2, if that is your normal collection days.

And residents in Hamilton and Clydesdale should present their black/non-recyclable waste bins on Thursday and Friday, September 1 and 2 and their black/green non-recyclable waste bins on these days if it was due for collection on August 24.

Further strike action is planned on Wednesday, September 7 through to Friday, September 9.

Collections will take place normal on Monday and Tuesday, September 5 and 6 and again on Monday, September 12.

A spokesman for SLC told Lanarkshire Live : "Please note no food/garden or recycling collections will take place anywhere in South Lanarkshire during the week of August 29 – September 2.

"All bulk uplift collections scheduled to take place on the industrial action days will be cancelled.

"The Household Waste Recycling Centre at Carluke (the only one operated by the council) will be closed on industrial action days. The other five sites will be open as normal but that they may be busier than usual.

"The service is unable to undertake any deliveries of bins or liners on the industrial action days.

"Cosla Leaders have agreed a revised pay offer to be made to the Trade Unions. Given the timing this is unlikely to impact on scheduled industrial action this week."
