The film, centered around two shamans, a feng shui master, and a mortician trying to unravel mysterious events affecting a U.S.-based Korean family, raked in an impressive $5.80 million over the weekend, capturing a significant 67% share of the total market. This brings its total earnings to a remarkable $67.3 million after almost a month in theaters, making it the highest-grossing film of the year so far and the fourth highest since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With over 9.30 million tickets sold, 'Exhuma' is on track to surpass the coveted ten million admissions mark, a benchmark for blockbuster success in Korea. Following closely behind, 'Dune 2' secured the second spot once again, earning $1.73 million over the weekend and accumulating a total of $13.6 million in revenue since its release.
Other films holding steady in the top five include 'Wonka' in third place with $335,000, 'Poor Things' in fourth with $174,000, and 'Bread Barbershop: Celeb in Bakery Town' in fifth with $128,000. The new release 'Land of Bad' debuted in sixth place with $105,000, while 'Past Lives' followed in seventh with $117,000.
Despite its international success, 'Bob Marley: One Love' opened quietly in eighth place, earning $87,000. 'The Birth of Korea' maintained its ninth position with an additional $58,400, bringing its total earnings to $8.09 million. Lastly, 'Katak: The Brave Beluga' entered the chart in tenth place with $59,000 in revenue.
