South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron has been found dead aged 24.
The star began her acting career at the age of nine, gaining international recognition for her roles in ‘A Brand New Life’ in 2009 and went on to perform in movies including ‘The Neighbor’ and ‘'A Girl at My Door’ before appearing in Netflix series ‘Bloodhounds’.
It emerged on Sunday (16.02.25) her body had been found at her residence in Seoul, South Korea, according to local police.
A friend discovered her dead and alerted authorities.
Police have stated there are no signs of foul play and are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.
In May 2022, Kim was involved in a drink-driving incident in Seoul's Gangnam District.
She crashed into several structures, including a transformer, leading to a power outage in the area.
Following the incident, she issued a public apology, stating: “I had an accident yesterday on May 18, around 8am in Gangnam, I made a big mistake by being drunk at that time.”
She added: “I am also very sorry to the production crew, including fellow actors and staff, for interrupting the production of the work that is being shot and the work that was being prepared.”
Kim was subsequently fined 20 million won (approximately £11,000) in April 2023.
The drink-driving incident had a significant impact on Kim's career.
Her role in ‘Bloodhounds’ was reduced amid public backlash, and she withdrew from other projects, including the television series ‘Trolley’.
Reports indicated she faced financial difficulties due to compensation payments related to the incident.
Following the news of her death, fans have taken to social media to express their condolences.
One said: “This is truly heartbreaking news. My deepest condolences to Kim Sae-ron's family, friends, and fans. May she rest in peace, and may those who loved her find strength during this difficult time.”
Another added: “I am still in denial, wishing it was all just a bad dream. Rest in Peace, Kim Sae-ron.”
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding her passing.
