The prestigious 2024 Nobel Prize in literature has been bestowed upon Han Kang, a renowned South Korean author, in recognition of her exceptional literary contributions. Han Kang, aged 53, embarked on her literary journey by publishing a collection of poems in a South Korean magazine, eventually transitioning to prose with a short story compilation in 1995.

One of Han's most acclaimed works, 'The Vegetarian,' gained international recognition after winning the Man Booker International Prize in 2016. The novel delves into the story of a young woman who seeks to adopt a more plant-like existence following haunting nightmares about human cruelty.

As the first South Korean author to receive this esteemed literary award, Han Kang joins a select group of only 18 women out of the 117 laureates since the prize's inception in 1901. Her writing often explores profound themes, such as historical traumas and the delicate nature of human life.
