On Sunday, a South Korean airliner crashed at Muan International Airport following a series of events that unfolded during its landing attempt. According to a briefing from the Land Ministry, the incident began when the control tower alerted the pilot about the presence of birds in the vicinity as the jet was trying to land on runway no.01.
Shortly after the warning, the pilot made a mayday call to the control tower, indicating an emergency situation. In response, the control tower directed the plane to switch to runway no.19 for landing, in an attempt to avoid the potential bird strike.
Despite following the new instructions, the aircraft encountered navigation equipment on the ground, leading to a collision before ultimately crashing into a wall. The entire sequence of events, from the initial warning to the crash, unfolded within a span of just a few minutes.
The Land Ministry reported that the landing attempt occurred approximately two minutes after the pilot's distress call. As the investigation into the crash continues, authorities are working to piece together the exact chain of events that led to the tragic incident at Muan International Airport.
