South Korea's Prime Minister Vows To Serve People Amid Political Turmoil

South Korean Prime Minster Han Duck-soo leaves after attending the commemoration ceremony for the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea in Seoul

South Korea's Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has made a commitment to continue serving the people amidst a wave of resignations and mounting pressure for the president to step down. In a statement titled 'A message to the People,' Han expressed his full responsibility for the events leading up to the current situation and pledged to work with Cabinet members until the very end to ensure the nation's stability and the well-being of its citizens.

The political landscape in South Korea has been tumultuous, with six opposition parties pushing for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol following widespread criticism, including from within his own party, over a brief martial law decree. A bill calling for the president's impeachment has been introduced in the National Assembly, with a vote scheduled for Friday or Saturday. If approved, the impeachment process would move to the Constitutional Court, where a majority of judges must agree to uphold the impeachment.

According to the South Korean constitution, if the impeachment is upheld, the president would be suspended from exercising power during the court proceedings, and the prime minister would assume the role of interim leader. In response to the escalating situation, Yoon's Chief of Staff and over 10 senior presidential secretaries have tendered their resignations.
