South Carolina Mayor Dies In Tragic Head-On Collision

A tragic incident unfolded in South Carolina as McColl Mayor George Garner II, 49, lost his life in a head-on collision with a truck in Mechanicsville. The fatal crash occurred while Garner was being pursued by a Marlboro County Deputy, although the pursuit was not related to any laws being broken but rather to ensure Garner's wellbeing.

Prior to this unfortunate event, the entire police department of McColl had resigned, citing a hostile work environment created by a councilman. Chief Bob Hale, in a heartfelt Facebook post, detailed the repeated acts of harassment and personal attacks that led to the resignation of all five officers, making it impossible for the department to function effectively.

Hale also highlighted budget cuts and unmet police needs as contributing factors to the department's inability to operate efficiently. With the town left without any police officers, the Marlboro County Sheriff's Department stepped in to address the community's needs.

Marlboro County Emergency Management/911 paid tribute to Mayor Garner, describing him as a remarkable individual known for his warmth and respect towards others. The community mourns the loss of Garner, extending condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.

As investigations into the circumstances surrounding Garner's death continue, the town of McColl faces challenges in maintaining public safety and order. The impact of these recent events serves as a somber reminder of the importance of effective leadership and support within local communities.
