South Belfast Police found themselves attending a most curious call late last night (Sunday 17 July).
Investigating street crime, road traffic accidents, assaults - these are all part and parcel of a police officer’s job. But the escape of a pot-bellied pig? That is something else entirely.
But this porky individual was found wandering around the roads near Ballylesson, to the south of the city, and a call was put in to the local police. They duly sent a van out and rescued the poor blighter, before returning the pig back to its owner and fellow hogs, all safe and sound, and none the worse for its experience.
Tweeting about the incident late on Sunday night, the Police Service for Northern Ireland (PSNI) team for South Belfast said: "Sometimes we get sent to the most bizarre calls. This pot bellied pig was found running around the road near Ballylesson. It has now been returned to its owner safe and sound."
If you spot anything untoward on the streets, something sticking its snout in where it doesn’t belong, then please call 101 if it is a non-emergency. For all emergency incidents, call 999.
