A South Australian woman who celebrated her 110th birthday last year is now believed to be the country's oldest living person, according to her family.
Catherina van der Linden was born in the Netherlands on August 26, 1912, making her now 110 years and 8 months.
Catherina's son, Jerome van der Linden, said he received an email last night from an online website that tracks such milestones informing him his mother was the country's newest, oldest living person.
"She is [also] the oldest known Dutch born person in the world," he told ABC Radio Adelaide's Sonya Feldhoff.
Mr van der Linden said his mum was pleased with her newest title.
"When we saw her this morning she was quite chuffed," he said.
"She found it hard to believe that she was now the oldest person."
Ms van der Linden migrated to Australia with her husband and young family in 1955 and now lives at a residential care facility in West Beach.
She has four children, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mr van der Linden said his mum was in good health apart from difficulties with her eyesight and hearing.
Last year, the facility organised a celebration to mark her 110th birthday where Ms van der Linden said she enjoyed champagne, twice daily walks, twice weekly gym sessions, and gardening.
"I try to do as much as I can myself, that's in my nature," she said at the time.
