SA Police have charged a man and a woman with the criminal neglect of a two-year-old child.
They say the child was taken to the Women's and Children's Hospital by ambulance after first being brought to a medical centre in Blair Athol, in Adelaide's north, about 10:30am on Monday, August 8 with serious injuries.
After an investigation, detectives charged a 40-year-old man of no fixed address and a 34-year-old Freeling woman with criminal neglect.
They appeared in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on Monday, where both were remanded in custody.
The woman is expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Friday, while the man is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in December.
This new case comes as SA Police is investigating the unrelated deaths of two children from possible criminal neglect as part of an operation called Taskforce Prime.
Six-year-old girl Charlie died last month after being found unresponsive in her Munno Para home, while seven-year-old northern suburbs boy Makai died in February.
Police started investigating Makai's death after receiving volumes of evidence from child protection authorities in July, alongside a post-mortem report and advice from a paediatrician at the hospital.
On Monday night, an Adelaide woman allegedly stabbed her two sons and has been charged with attempted murder.
