South Australia has reported 63 COVID-19 deaths in one day — the highest figure in a single day — after adjusting data to include some deaths over a four month period from April to August.
The previous highest figure was 23, reported on March 7, 2022.
SA Health said the people aged from their 40s to their 90s died between April 27 and August 18.
They included 36 women, 25 men and two people whose gender SA Health did not know.
Their deaths were reported on Friday after SA Health's Communicable Disease Control Branch reconciled case data with information on deaths received from Births, Deaths and Marriages SA.
One death has been removed from SA Health's tally, after being "found to be unrelated to COVID-19", the department said.
A total of 569 new COVID-19 cases were reported in South Australia on Friday.
On Friday is the last day new COVID-19 cases will be reported daily.
It is also the first day where people diagnosed with COVID-19 will only have to isolate for five days, and the first day masks are not mandatory on aeroplanes.
They are still compulsory on public transport, although Premier Peter Malinauskas has said this may be reviewed soon.
