Source: Patriots QB Mac Jones will start Sunday against the Jets

Patriots quarterback Mac Jones will start Sunday against the Jets and took the majority of starting reps in Wednesday’s practice, a source told the Herald.

Jones started last Monday’s loss to the Bears, but was pulled after three possessions. He finished 3-of-6 for 13 yards and an interception. Jones said he felt good after the game, his first since suffering a high ankle sprain against the Ravens on Sept. 25.

He was not listed on the team’s first injury report of the week, which listed 10 players. In an evening press conference, Jones would not confirm whether he had been told directly that he would start.

“We don’t really talk about that,” Jones said

Earlier Wednesday, Pats coach Bill Belichick declined to name a starter in his midday press conference.

“Uh, we’ll see how it goes here today,” he said when asked if he had chosen a starter.

Belichick also deflected when asked if he would use another rotation. Bailey Zappe took over for Jones against Chicago and finished 14-of-22 for 185 yards, one touchdown and a pick.

ESPN’s Field Yates first reported Jones would start and took 90% of the starting quarterback snaps in Wednesday’s practice.
