Suits fans rejoice, our favourite franchise is making a comeback, this time set in Los Angeles.
Nearly four years after the hit show left our screens for good, Deadline reported that series creator Aaron Korsh is “in development for a Suits offshoot” with NBC Universal.
Korsh and the rest of the creative team have been busy since then, with filming of a pilot episode scheduled between 25 March and 11 April in Vancouver, earlier this year.
The news is less surprising when you consider the huge boost in viewership ‘Suits’ received after it landed on Netflix in 2023.
Details have continued to drop about what’s now being called Suits LA, including the confirmed return of our favourite legal heartthrob, Harvey Specter aka Gabriel Macht.
What Will The Suits: LA Reboot Be About?
If you haven’t got around to bingeing the original series yet, allow us to catch you up. Suits centres on university drop-out Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), who impresses famous litigator Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) with his photographic memory to earn a job at the firm that Harvey is a partner at. The series followed the unlikely duo’s successes, while at the same time working to conceal Mike’s lack of qualification.
The reboot focuses on a new set of circumstances but will follow a similar format of a workplace drama with a legal focus.
According to project details on IMDb, Suits: L.A. will focus on a Ted Black (played by Stephen Amell), a former New York prosecutor who sets up an L.A. law firm specialising in criminal and entertainment cases. This sets it apart from the original Suits series, where legal dramas usually focused on mergers and acquisitions in New York.
While the plot for Suits: L.A. focuses primarily on new characters and a new location, the fact that lead character Ted Black is from New York leaves room for interesting connections to the original show and cast. Harvey’s return is case in point.
Who Is Cast In The Suits: LA Reboot?
Arrow and The Flash star Stephen Amell plays the lead role of Ted Black in Suits: L.A. The other actors tied to the series so far are Troy Winbush, Lex Scott Davis, Bryan Greenberg, Josh McDermitt and Alice Lee.
It’s now been confirmed Gabriel Macht will reprise his role of ruthless and handsome lawyer, Harvey Specter. Per Deadline, Macht will only appear for a three-episode arc, much to the disappointment of fans. Given Harvey and the show’s lead character, Ted Black, share a background of working in New York, it’s easy to see how the original character might tie into the reboot.
Deadline has reported that Patrick J. Adams, who played Mike Ross, has shown interest.
As for whether any other fan favourite cast members will make an appearance, like Rick Hoffman, who played partner Louis Litt, or Sarah Rafferty as legal secretary Donna Paulsen, that remains to be seen.
The original series also famously starred Meghan Markle as the ambitious paralegal Rachel Zane, in her last television role before she became a member of the royal family. While there’s been no official confirmation that the Duchess is set to make a return to acting, rumours have been buzzing in recent months, after Variety reported that Markle signed with global talent agency WME. She also made an unexpected return to acting in December when she starred in a commercial for coffee brand Clevr.
When Will The Suits: LA Reboot Be Released?
According to Deadline, the project was being “fast tracked with a serious commitment.”
NBC has now confirmed that Suits: LA will debut on Sunday, February 23, 2025, in the U.S. Exactly where and when Australian viewers can watch the series is yet to be confirmed.
In the meantime, you could check out the first spin-off series Pearson or revisit the original Suits, which has a re-watch podcast in the works with Patrick J. Adams and Sarah Rafferty.
