Penrith forward Scott Sorensen will become the third generation of his family to represent New Zealand after being named to start in the Kiwis' World Cup game with Jamaica.

Sorensen, who has won back-to-back NRL titles with the Panthers, will carry a celebrated legacy onto the field when he makes his international debut at Hull's MKM Stadium on Saturday (Sunday AEDT).

His grandfather Billy Sorensen and great uncle Dave Sorensen played for the Kiwis in the 1950s, while uncles Kurt and Dane were mainstays of the New Zealand side throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

Sorensen will start on the interchange bench, with Canberra centre Sebastian Kris the only other debutant in Michael Maguire's squad at the expense of Jordan Rapana.

There is still no place for Melbourne halfback Jahrome Hughes, who pulled out of last week's win over Lebanon with a thigh issue, with Kieran Foran holding onto his place in the side.

Moses Leota, who was a late scratching against the Cedars, is named to start alongside Panthers teammate James Fisher-Harris, who will captain the side.

Joe Tapine and Ronaldo Mulitalo have been given a week off after the win over Lebanon ahead of the final group clash with Ireland.

Isaac Liu and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak take their places.

New Zealand team: Joey Manu, Sebastian Kris, Marata Niukore, Peta Hiku, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, Dylan Brown, Kieran Foran, Moses Leota, Brandon Smith, James Fisher-Harris, Kenny Bromwich, Briton Nikora, Isaac Liu. Interchange: Isaiah Papali'i, Nelson Asofa-Solomona, Jeremy Marshall-King, Scott Sorensen. Reserves: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Jesse Bromwich.
