The 2025 Sony Open will tee off from Waialae Country Club in Hawaii on Thursday as the world’s top golfers compete in the second tournament of the season. Since the PGA Tour is headed to La Quinta, California for the American Express next week, many of the world’s top players will not be in action this weekend. In fact, only one of the top 10 players on the Tour stayed back in Hawaii, meaning the 2025 Sony Open will be anyone’s tournament to win.
Sony Open 2025 Odds
With an $8.7 million purse and 500 FedEx Cup points on the line this week, the Sony Open field will consist of a mix of major champions and up-and-coming stars looking to break through on the PGA Tour.
Hideki Matsuyama is back on the course after last week’s record-setting victory at The Sentry. Matsuyama finished a record 35-under par, setting a new mark for the lowest 72-score hole in relation to par.
Following his 11th career win, Matsuyama will come into Waialae Country Club with the best odds to win the Sony Open at +1100. Russell Henley (+1600), Corey Conners (+1800), Tom Kim (+2200) and Maverick McNealy (+2800) are among the top five contenders to win the event.

Sony Open 2025 Predictions
Here are our Sony Open 2025 predictions and the best bets to win the tournament.
- Hideki Matsuyama (+1000)
- Luke Clanton (+3500)
- Chris Kirk (+5500)
Hideki Matsuyama (+1000)
It might be early in the season but Matsuyama is at the top of his game right now and his decision to play in this tournament is a sign that he’s on a mission to make a big splash in 2025. Only six golfers have ever won The Sentry and the Sony Open, known as the Hawaii Double, and Matsuyama is one of them. After setting a PGA Tour record last week, it’s hard to envision a scenario where Matsuyama isn’t in the mix against what appears to be a weaker field. Remember, he won the Sony Open back in 2022.
Luke Clanton (+3500)
Luke Clanton, the world’s top-ranked amateur, will be playing this tournament on a sponsor exemption. If he records a top-10 finish, he’d be rewarded with another exemption and an invitation to the American Express in California next week. Clanton posted a T2 at The RSM Classic and will be one of the top underdogs to win the Sony Open in Hawaii at +3500 odds.
Chris Kirk (+6000)
Kirk has a history of performing well in Hawaii, including at the Sony Open. He was a runner-up at the event in 2021 and finished third in 2023. Since 2021, he’s made four consecutive cuts at the Sony Open and won The Sentry in Hawaii in 2024. With many of the Tour’s top players sitting this one out and Matsuyama feeling the pressure from last week’s record-setting win, Kirk could be one of the players to emerge as a real contender at Waialae this week.
Sony Open 2025 Best Bets
- Chris Kirk (-122) over Cam Davis
- Luke Clanton Top-10 Finish (+400)
- Chris Kirk Top-20 Finish (+220)
