Sony is ending PlayStation Twitter connectivity soon

Sony will no longer let you share game captures between PS5 and Twitter, though you still have the app at your disposal. The change goes into effect on Nov. 13, 2023 on PS5 and PS4.

“Integration with X (formerly known as Twitter) will no longer function on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 consoles,” Sony said on its support website. “This includes the ability to view any content published on X on PS5/PS4, and the ability to post and view content, trophies, and other gameplay-related activities on X directly from PS5/PS4 (or link an X account to do so).”

Sony didn’t explain why it’s ending connectivity between the platforms, though The Verge speculates it may be tied to increases in Twitter’s API prices. The social media platform includes sharing options and embeds in their package plans for enterprises, which could reportedly cost upwards of $42,000 a month for larger businesses. That seems unlikely, considering you can still share them from the PlayStation Network.

Speculation aside, what that means for you if you liked sharing your PS5 shots on Twitter is that you’ll probably want to start using Sony’s PS App on your phone. You can link the app to your console, and your captures will automatically upload to the PlayStation Cloud, where you can share them with friends on the PSN, transfer to a device, or post on social media.

There’s also the old-fashioned way of just sticking a USB in your console and adding your captures to it.
