Sony is making a LeBron James DualSense and PS5 cover as part of its PlayStation Playmaker program. The news comes two days after PlayStation’s senior vice president of global marketing announced the Playmaker program and partnership with James, and both accessories will launch sometime later in 2023.
“It’s still crazy to think a kid from Akron who grew up playing games is getting to create something like this,” James, self-proclaimed NBA GOAT, said in a PlayStation Blog post. “Designing a console cover and controller with PlayStation that gives a nod to my I Promise students and where we come from is a pretty cool thing. I hope it’s something that continues to inspire everyone who touches it, and that they have a little fun finding meaning in every detail.”
James helped design the DualSense and PS5 cover and included an adage as the central motif, with elements and “personal imagery” that James said was important to him throughout his life and career.
“Nothing is given, everything is earned” feature on the DualSense touchpad and the center of the PS5 cover in a stylized font, while the controller’s right grip has “Build, uplift,” “Chosen ones,” and “I promise” in the same font.
The design also includes PlayStation’s signature buttons and crowns depicted in different colors.
Sony hasn’t opened pre-orders for the LeBron James DualSense yet, but if it’s anything like the recent Hogwarts Legacy DualSense, they probably won’t last long once they are available.
