Sonic the Hedgehog 3 director Jeff Fowler has confirmed that filming for the highly anticipated movie has officially wrapped. The movie is based on SEGA’s popular video game franchise, with Fowler previously bringing the iconic character to life in the successful 2020 film, Sonic the Hedgehog. The first movie grossed over $319 million worldwide, paving the way for sequels and a spinoff television series featuring Idris Elba's character Knuckles from Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
Fowler took to Twitter to share a behind-the-scenes image confirming the conclusion of filming for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The image featured a clapperboard with the character Shadow, who was teased in the post-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. This announcement follows James Marsden's confirmation that principal photography has wrapped.
Shadow the Hedgehog, a character with a darker and more mysterious demeanor, is set to play a significant role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Originally introduced in 2001, Shadow quickly became a fan favorite due to his tragic origins and complex personality.
The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, created in response to Nintendo's Super Mario Bros., has evolved over the years to include a vast array of characters across numerous titles. While the first movie focused on Sonic and Doctor Robotnik, the sequel introduced Knuckles and Tails, expanding the universe.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to explore a potentially darker narrative, with Shadow's presence hinting at a more intense storyline. The dynamic between Shadow and Sonic, reminiscent of Batman and Superman, adds an intriguing layer to the upcoming film.
The movie is scheduled for release on December 20, continuing the adventures of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles as they face off against the formidable Shadow the Hedgehog.
