Son Heung-min left questioning Golden Boot award after Harry Kane admission

The season is nearly over, and it has been a rollercoaster campaign for Spurs, with a change in manager, new arrivals, departures and inconsistency. However, Tottenham are now just a point away from securing Champions League football for next season.

The Lilywhites can solidify their position in the top four by getting just a point on their travels to Carrow Road after Arsenal's last two defeats. Antonio Conte's side has lost games they should've taken three points from, but a draw at Anfield and a victory in the North London Derby have helped them get to the position they are in today.

It is not just a chance to secure their place in the top European competition for next season on Sunday. It is also a chance for one of Conte's stars to win an individual award. Harry Kane has won the Golden Boot three times, most recently being last season, beating Mohamed Salah by just a goal.

This season the Liverpool forward could be beaten by a Spurs player again, but this time it would be Son Heung-min. The South Korean has been used to assisting the England captain for many years, and this season their partnership has gone from strength to strength.

Kane has been playing in deeper roles and creating more, meaning Son has had more opportunities to slot the ball into the back of the net, and the 29-year-old hasn't failed to deliver. The duo were also joined by Dejan Kulusevski in January, who has had an immediate impact in the front three, and the trio have become a threat to opposition sides.

In an exclusive interview on behalf of Bookmakers.com, Teddy Sheringham told football.london what he had made of Son this season. "Absolutely unbelievable," the former striker said.

"I think he's stepped up to the plate when things haven't been great at Tottenham this year. We were talking about who's the player of the year for Tottenham, and I think more often than not, you turn to Harry Kane, but Sonny's been unbelievable this year, even when things were tough, weren't going according to plan, he was the one still trying his socks off and really working out for the team, showing real leadership qualities and his true class has come through now.

"Harry's back on form, and they've got a lovely understanding between them, and I think he's had a fantastic season," Sheringham added. The duo broke the record for the most Premier League combination goals scored earlier in the season, and their on-field relationship is continuing to grow.

So could Kane be the man to help the South Korean claim the Golden Boot on Sunday? In Tottenham's last two games, they have been awarded a penalty.

The England captain is the penalty taker, and that is never questioned, with Son even admitting how confident he feels when his teammate steps up to the spot. "I see only the net," the 29-year-old admitted.

"He's the only one...the best of the penalty takers. You could trust him at any moment, 60 minutes, 96, in the last seconds, you can trust him easily.

"You know where the ball goes, even the goalkeeper knows, but he puts it in the corner. I don't feel any pressure. Harry probably does, but I don't when he shoots," Son added.

The South Korean has scored 21 goals this season, just one behind Salah for the Golden Boot, and so it is something else to add to the list of what is to be decided on the final day of the season. In an event held by Masters Football, Sheringham explained that after the North London Derby, he had asked Kane the important question.

"Harry came and spoke to us after the game, and I put a question to Harry that if we're [Spurs] beating Norwich two or three-nil, if the game is already won and there's another penalty, would you let Sonny have it so he could go for the Golden Boot? He just laughed, and he said, 'let's win the game first, let's get in that position'," Sheringham explained.

"He's a goal scorer, he didn't want to hand over a penalty straight away." As the 56-year-old alludes to, it would perhaps be a shock to see Kane hand the ball over if Spurs were awarded a penalty at Carrow Road.

However, if it means his fellow Tottenham forward could win his first Golden Boot award, you would think the striker may take a couple of extra moments to make his decision, but we will have to wait and see.
