Son Heung-min angrily confronts Anthony Taylor after South Korea suffer World Cup defeat

Angry Tottenham star Son Heung-min confronted Premier League referee Anthony Taylor after South Korea's World Cup loss to Ghana.

The African side claimed a 3-2 win in Qatar and take a huge step towards qualification from Group H. Ghana went into the break 2-0 up following goals from Mohammed Salisu and Mohammed Kudus before South Korea fought back.

Cho Gue-sung netted two headers in quick succession to bring the game alive before Kudus tucked in at the back post to give Ghana the lead once more. Korea pushed hard for an equaliser but came up short, with star player, Tottenham ’s Son, quiet throughout.

They were absolutely seething at Taylor when the game finished, with the Manchester-born referee not allowing Korea to take a corner. He blew the final whistle with 100.53 on the clock, after 10 minutes of added time were initially awarded.

South Korea manager Paulo Bento stormed onto the pitch to join his players in remonstrating with Taylor. The Portuguese boss was seen screaming in Taylor’s face and was eventually shown a red card, which will mean that he will not be on the touchline for South Korea’s final group game against Portugal on Friday.

Bento’s side will have to win that match to stand any chance of reaching the knockout stages. They currently sit bottom of Group H, with one point from two games, following their 0-0 draw against Uruguay in the opening match.

They showed plenty of quality against Ghana but were ultimately undone by superior finishing. Ghana scored from all three of their shots on target, while the Koreans scored twice from their seven.

Ajax winger Kudus won the player of the match award for his two goals and he was delighted with the result, which has Ghana second in Group H ahead of their final game against Uruguay later this week.

"It's a good feeling,” he told BBC Sport. “We wanted the three points and we got them. Everyone was absolutely on top of their game today.

"They came back to 2-2, we had to come up with more energy and it happened.

"I want to thank all my team-mates, it's a team game and they all played a part in my performance. The cross in from Jordan [Ayew] and the cut-back from Inaki [Williams]. Big up to everyone because everyone played a part."
