Something's Coming: Fortnite's Sky Crack Is Now Pouring Out Sand Onto The Map

Fortnite

Epic has wasted no time inserting new mysteries into Fortnite for season 5. I thought it was a bit weird that the new season launched with Vikings as the only reference to history, in what’s supposed to be a time travel-based season, but the implication was that more was going to be coming as the season progressed.

That may happen sooner than we thought, as fans have spotted sand pouring out over the sky crack above the new desert area. The best view you’ll get of it is if you’re gliding down to earth, but it can also be seen from the ground level. It’s two different areas with about three streams of sand each, and now fans are debating what exactly this means. There are three main theories I could see panning out:

  • It doesn’t mean a new historical zone is coming, it’s just a reference to the area turning into a desert, and we’re reading too much into it.
  • One sand-based historical period that’s supposed to arrive with a new zone and skins, according to past leaks, is Egypt, so fans think we might see some pyramids pop up in the desert in the coming weeks.
  • The sand is pouring out approximately over where the Old West wagon appeared out of a rift at the end of season 4, so this may be hinting at a Western zone and skins instead.
Fortnite

For my money, I’d say the last one is the most likely option. Why? Because it would follow a pattern. The Viking area launched with the beginning of season 5, and appeared near where the old anchor showed up out of the breach in season 4. Also, if you look closely at the sky crack over there, there’s actually snow coming out of it, and the Viking village has (a small amount of) snow in it. So, if the pattern holds, sand over the desert area combined with the wagon says Western zone to me, complete with cowboy skins, but we’ll have to see.

The third object that appeared out of the rift was also in Moisty, now the desert, and it was some sort of animal bones that could be prehistoric, I’m not entirely sure. But there were only three objects total that appeared before the season ended, and I have a hunch we’re going to see more than three historical periods in the next ten weeks, so perhaps Egypt may actually be coming, despite no real in-game hints about it.

I want to believe it’s one of those two options, and not just a reference to the desert that’s already there, because that would be a bit boring. Epic has been hard to predict as of late, so who really knows what’s happening, but I would keep watching that area for something to pop into existence in the next week or two. Stay tuned.
