'Something for people to enjoy,' say people in Beeston as new world tapas restaurant set to open

People in Beeston welcome a new bar and restaurant replacing the 150-seater Ottimo venue which closed last year. Plans have recently been announced by Glass Orchid that a new restaurant will be opening this autumn.

The unit, located at the Beeston Square development, has been vacant for seven months after the sudden closure of the Italian restaurant Ottimo. Full details have yet to be revealed, however, Glass Orchid has made one short announcement to say a menu of world tapas paired with specially selected wines and a bespoke cocktail menu will be served.

"We are happy to announce that we will be opening our doors this autumn," said the people behind the new business, unrelated to the previous owners. People in Beeston said they were keen to try out the new restaurant when it opens later this year.

“I think it’s lovely that something new is going to open,” said Hayley George. The 34-year-old, who works in retail, continued: “I never went in [Ottimo] but I know it didn’t last very long, which is a shame.

“Obviously it’s a positive that a restaurant will open. I will definitely try it out when it opens, I hope it goes well.”

Abbie Carter, a 22-year-old student, said: “It sounds pretty good. I think it’s nice that Beeston has such a range of places to go. I really like Beeston Social and there’s a few cafes that are really good too. I think it’s good that there will be something new for people to enjoy.”

A resident, who didn’t want to be named, added: “It’s been closed for a while now, I’m glad they’re replacing it with something new. People always welcome new places so I think it will be well used.”

The £50m Beeston Square development was previously described as the town's 'answer to Nottingham’s Cornerhouse', in a nod to the array of new businesses within the complex which compliment the Arc Cinema, the centrepiece of the multi-million-pound project. The Beeston Social and Rassam's Creamery are among other businesses to have opened within the building.

Ottimo closed just weeks before Christmas, with workers told that an investor had pulled out when they turned up for their shift on November 30. The restaurant had been open for just seven months.
