It’s always convenient to have a food store pretty much on your doorstep. On Berridge Road in Forest Fields, people have just that.
PAK Foods in Berridge Road opened last year. We paid a visit to see what international and loved goods they have, as community reporter Keimae Blake reports…
There’s one thing that’s certain: PAK Foods on Berridge Road has no empty shelves. On arrival, I noticed rows and rows of household UK products and more Caribbean brands such as Tropical Sun Foods.

This store has something for everyone. On the shelves, there were brands and products that I had never heard of before like Shakkar, a sugary powder.
I was pleased to see Johnson Syrup, a Jamaican brand. For £2.99, I added a strawberry flavoured syrup to my basket.
PAK Foods has a meat counter where a butcher will happily serve you, it has a freezer section, too. For spice lovers, I noticed a pack of hot and spicy breaded chicken breast fillets for £6.99. To my joy, the store had Nando's Chilli Jam sauce which I happily bought for £2.49.
On my walk around the shop, which only had a few people in, I came across some everyday essentials such as Fairy Liquid for £2.29. It’s the summer holidays and there’s aisles full of lunchbox-type snacks such as Kellogg's Frosties cereal bars that were £1.39 - these are the perfect snack.
Party Rings, colourful biscuits perfect for parties, had a twin pack for a bargain of £1.29 and I know that, in my house, whether there’s a party or not, Party Rings always go down well so they too were added to my basket.
With rows and rows of food and drinks including fresh fruit and veg, PAK Foods in my opinion is definitely worth a visit. There are a number of Pak Foods stores across the East Midlands, with another in Sneinton Dale. The site in Forest Fields had stood empty for years before plans for the supermarket were put forward.
