Dapper folks of the motorcycling world rejoice, because it's almost time for the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride (DGR). For those of you who don't know what the DGR is about, listen up. And for those who do, here's what to expect this year.
On Sunday, May 18, cities around the world will be flooded with classic and vintage motorcycles ridden by well-dressed folks for one clear goal: raise funds and awareness for men’s mental health and prostate cancer research. This is what the DGR is all about and you can register for the ride here.
Since the DGR started in 2012, it has raised more than $50 million for its causes, more than 500,000 riders have taken part in the group rides, and 121 countries have played host to the rides. We've promoted the DGR here on RideApart before, but this year, I want to do more than promote the ride.
I rarely speak about my mental health troubles, which have been relatively serious at times over the past decade, on RideApart. But given my experiences, RideApart's platform, and the fact that the DGR exists, I want to change that and open discourse. Moreover, I want to help contribute in a more meaningful way to the DGR.
With the help of Triumph Motorcycles, RideApart will set up a fundraising campaign for the ride, and I'll be doing something particularly special and fairly mentally and physically taxing in the hopes of raising both money and awareness for men's mental health. The plan is being formed, and we want you to be a part of it once we're ready to give out the details.
So keep an eye on the site and our social media accounts to see the task I've taken on, as well as how you can help spread the word—and maybe even be a part of it yourself.
