Somerset architecture firm expands into Bristol

A Somerset-headquartered architecture company has expanded into Bristol with the opening of its second South West office. Orme Architecture, which established a purpose-built studio in Baltonsborough five years ago, is moving into a refurbished Georgian building off Broad Street in Bristol.

The new office is near the city's grade-II listed Guild Hall and the Harbourside, and is situated in Albion Chambers. It will provide workspace for eight extra members of the architectural team and a meeting space for clients, Orme said.

The company's managing director Edd Medlicott said the expansion meant the business could offer a "more superior service" to customers as far away as Cheltenham - and "better access" to its teams working on commercial projects in London and the wider UK.

He said: "Bristol is a creative, vibrant and growing market, and whilst we will continue to have our HQ in Somerset, [this move will mean the business] can continue with the levels of business growth we have experienced."

Orme said opening an office in Bristol meant the company could build on its experience across sectors including retail, workplace and residential to care homes, community, and education. The business, which exhibited at Grand Designs Live in London in May, said 2022 continued to be an "exciting year" for the company.

Tom Gascoyne, creative director for the practice, added: “We are fortunate to have an incredibly talented team in place and this is an amazing opportunity for us to build on that talent which in turn will allow us to continue to build on our reputation for creating outstanding bespoke design and delivery for both new and existing clients. We are looking forward to continuing that journey."
