'Someone could die' Mindless eco vandals target cars in Broughty Ferry as police launch probe

Mindless eco-vandals have targeted a number of cars in Broughty Ferry.

Activists let down tyres on the vehicles in the area’s Beach Crescent and Fisher Street on Thursday night.

They claimed to be from online group ‘The Tyre Extinguishers’ and left leaflets on windscreens trying to justify their actions.

Titled ‘ATTENTION - your gas guzzler kills’ the poorly written leaflet opens up by saying: “You’ll be angry, but don’t take it personally. It’s not you, it’s your car.”

And the group is quite right - locals are furious.

The vandal attacks seem completely random with non-SUV’s among the vehicles targeted.

One victim took to social media to vent her displeasure and posted a picture of the leaflet.

She wrote: “This was on my windscreen this morning in Beach Crescent. One tyre deflated. It is not an SUV! Informed police.”

She later told Dundee Live: “I had a look at their website. Quite alarming….urging further action on same vehicle and which vehicles to target. Mine is not an SUV and has a 1.6 engine.”

Other locals were just as angry and said it’s only a matter of time before someone dies as a result of the vandals' reckless actions.

One wrote: “No words really….. someone will catch them mid action and give them a good hiding for that.

“Not really a way to have others embrace the change you’re seeking.

“What if you had to get somewhere in a hurry like a hospital etc because you couldn’t get an ambulance in time. Could genuinely be the difference between life and death.”

While another said: “That’s bloody ridiculous! I have to drive a bigger car to accommodate my wheelchair….I wonder if they’d do that to mine???

“Maybe I should just jump on my bike or just walk….oh yeah…forgot …. Not able to. And how do they know the driver of any car doesn’t have a hidden disability??

“Sheer bloody stupidity!”

A spokesperson for Tayside Police told Dundee Live today: "Police are aware a number of vehicles have had tyres deflated and leaflets from an activist group placed on them in the Broughty Ferry area overnight. Officers are currently investigating.

"Motorists are advised to check their vehicles before setting off.

"If you discover your tyres have been deliberately deflated or if you have any information about this, please contact police on 101."

The incidents follow similar ill-thought out attacks in Edinburgh.

Last month we told how activist's targeted residents SUVs in the capital.

New Town locals were shocked when they woke up to their car tyres having been deflated by the Tyre Extinguishers.

They targeted over 40 SUVs in the area.

The group claimed they "will be back" after vandalising a number of Range Rovers and Land Rover Defenders.
