A large number of cows have been mysteriously stolen from a field in Carmarthenshire, leaving police with no leads as to where they ended up or how they were taken. A total of 26 Fresian cows were taken from a field in the Golden Grove area - between Llanarthne and Llandeilo east of Carmarthen.
Police say a lorry would have been needed to transport the cows from the field, but as there were no reported witnesses they cannot be sure what kind, make or model was used to steal the herd and then make a getaway from the area. An appeal was made for anyone with information to come forward, but police have admitted that “all lines of enquiry have been completed”. However, anyone with any information which could help can still report it to Dyfed-Powys Police by calling 101, quoting reference number DPP/3649/24/04/2023/02/C, with the hope that the mysterious theft - which happened at some point over the weekend of April 21 to April 23 - can still be solved.
While the large-scale theft of cows is considered rare, when it does happen it can represent a huge financial loss for farmers. Last December, 14 cows were stolen from a farm in Anglesey and later located at two farms 125 miles away in Stoke. The cows - worth a combined £20,000 - were found thanks to an extensive investigation involving North Wales Police’s rural crime team, officers from Cheshire and Stoke, and a drone unit.
