Solway Sharks head coach Martin Grubb hailed his quadruple-winning side’s “incredible achievement” after they secured the National Championship.
The Dumfries Ice Bowl side became the first ever NIHL team to secure an historic grand slam against the Streatham Redhawks in Coventry at Planet Ice on Sunday.
In one season the Sharks have won the NIHL North League, North Cup, play-offs and the National Championship after winning a treble last season.
Grubb said: “I am so proud of this group of players and it’s an incredible achievement to win a National Championship let alone a grand slam.
“The game started slow but after adjustments we found our rhythm and started to dominate. Our speed and skill started to cause Streatham problems.
“We knew going in to the last period the first goal would be key and we got that on the powerplay and the third goal a minute later really put us in the driving seat.
“We finished the game off with that fourth goal.
“The players to a man were unbelievable as were our supporters and the achievements of this team will never be forgotten. This team is now a great one and one this region should be proud to have.”
