Solis: New grill restaurant from founders of TĀ TĀ Eatery to open at Arcade Battersea

The duo behind TĀ TĀ Eatery will launch a new 80-cover restaurant in Arcade Battersea next month.

Chefs Ana Gonçalves and Zijun Meng are to open Solis on October 4, a chicken and steak grill restaurant inspired by the flavours of Spain, Portugal, Uruguay and Argentina.

Solis, they say, is named after Juan Díaz de Solis, a 16th-century explorer who is said to have been the first European to land on what is now modern day Uruguay.

Gonçalves said: “Solis is a very personal restaurant for me. I wanted to create a place for everyone that serves the type of food I have experienced since I was little: very simple, full of flavour and approachable.

“We want Solis to be a place everyone feels at home, somewhere unfussy and warm that serves the sort of food you want to eat over and over again.”

The menu will be split into various sections. Smaller dishes from one called “para picar” (£2 - £4), featuring huevos rellenos, a play on devilled eggs with a spiced tuna filling, and elotes asados, a street-style grilled corn on the cob dressed in a creamy sauce flavoured with chilli and lime.

Main dishes will come by way of the “de la parilla” part of the menu (£15 - £20), with a spatchcock chicken rubbed in smoked aji-aji oil, and a flat iron steak alongside a house entrecôte sauce. Both will come with fries and a salad of onions and tomatoes dressed in oregano and olive oil, popular throughout Portugal.

Elsewhere will be snacks including beef croquetas, and gildas made with boquerones, olives and pickles served on a chimichurri-smothered slice of French baguette. On the drinks list will be three types of sangria, wines by the glass (£7 and above) and the classic Uruguayan aperitif, medio y medio, which combines dry white with a sweeter one which is fizzy.

Cokey Sulkin, from Arcade, said Solis is the final installment after a long process. “We’re very excited to see Solis come to life and to welcome the very first guests,” said Sulkin. “Arcade Create has so far helped bring over 12 food concepts into existence and we’re thrilled for Solis to join that collection.”
