Cardiff City legend Sol Bamba has gone public on his links with the Bluebirds job.
City sacked Mark Hudson on Saturday following a disappointing 1-1 draw with bottom club Wigan Athletic, leaving the club looking for their third manager of the season.
A host of names have already been put forward to succeed Hudson in the Cardiff dugout, with former centre-back Bamba among them. You can read live updates here.
Speaking on Sky Sports on Wednesday morning, Bamba couldn't hide his affection for the club he served with such distinction for years.
He said he'd love to help the Bluebirds one day adding it was not his place to say whether he was the right man to rescue them from relegation danger.
"Everyone know how much I care for the club and the fans, and I live in the area," he said. "I would love to work for the club one day. Is the time right now? It's not for me to say."
Former Cardiff boss Neil Warnock remains the favourite for the position with bookmakers. It is felt a Warnock-Bamba ticket could work for Cardiff, with Warnock in charge for a short while but grooming Bamba to take over as main man. That is a scenario which is believed to appeal to Bamba.
Ex-West Brom manager Ismael Valerien has also emerged as a candidate in the last 24 hours, while Cardiff have others in the frame too. It is believed the club are looking for a manager with experience of leading a team in the Championship.
Dean Whitehead will be in charge for the FA Cup relay at Leeds United tonight and probably Saturday's home clash with Millwall.
If the Bluebirds are knocked out of the cup at Elland Road, the Board would have more time to conduct their search for the new man as their game with Luton the following weekend is off. The Hatters will be playing in the fourth round of the FA Cup that day.
