The former Standard restaurant critic, Jimi Famurewa, has taken on a new role as the official ambassador of the newly formed Soho Food Scene, which will champion the postcode’s restaurants through editorial features and social media content.
An announcement said Famurewa will “curate a guide to the neighbourhood’s most exciting culinary offerings”, spotlighting some of the best places to dine and capturing behind-the-scenes moments.
The partnership will be centred around Carnaby Street and Kingly Court, where Famurewa will tell stories through conversations with Soho chefs, finding out their go-to spots and where they frequent after hours.
The guide will also chart many of the best-value dishes the area has to offer alongside expert tips for recreating them at home.
Famuwera said: “Soho has always been the beating heart of London’s food culture, an ever-changing, ever-exciting hub where the city’s most ambitious chefs and restaurateurs come to make their mark.
“From legendary institutions to boundary-pushing newcomers, it’s a place that celebrates creativity, diversity, and bold flavours in a way no other part of London quite does.
“I’m excited to shine a spotlight on the people and places that make Soho such an essential dining destination, unearthing hidden hacks, behind-the-scenes stories and the dishes that define this incredible neighbourhood.”
Soho Food Scene is a project led by the property group Shaftesbury Capital and will aim to promote Carnaby Street and its restaurants, from Darjeeling Express to Korean Dinner Party, Dishoom to Donia.
It comes amid a wave of new openings. Recent launches include the New York-style pizza shop Breadstall and La Maritxu, which specialises in Basque cheesecake.
