Sofyan Amrabat asking price named as Liverpool 'head start' in transfer race emerges

Fiorentina have reportedly named their asking price for Sofyan Amrabat amid rumoured interest from Liverpool in the Moroccan star.

Amrabat announced his ability on the big stage during his country's remarkable run to the semi-finals of the World Cup. Playing a key role in the Atlas Lions' surprise success, the 26-year-old's commanding displays in Qatar have resulted in inevitable transfer links as his current employers battle to keep hold of him.

It was recently claimed Fiorentina were ready to activate a clause in Amrabat's contract to tie him down for an additional year - from 2024 to 2025. That would provide the Serie A side with greater negotiating power when discussing fees with potential buyers.

A new report suggested this action has now occurred. However, it is said not have deterred Liverpool from backing away from a deal. The Reds are described as having a 'big head start' in the race for Amrabat, having made contact with the player and his representatives prior to the World Cup taking place.

However, that fee would not appear to be an issue, with the Moroccan outlet stating Liverpool have 'made it known' they are willing to stump up the required amount in order to recruit Amrabat, who has featured in 13 of Fiorentina's 15 league matches this term.

It was reported elsewhere yesterday that the player himself has made the Reds his 'preference'. However, Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid are also said to be keen.
