Social welfare Ireland: Upcoming spring cash boosts for parents and €200 lump sum payment in April

Parents in Ireland are due to receive several cash boosts over the coming months, including a €200 lump sum to be paid in April.

The support will also include a €100 Child Benefit boost, a once-off Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance payment, and some parents will also receive a social welfare increase.

With the cost of living continuing to rise and add major pressure on some families, these payments will come as a relief.

Here's everything you need to know:

€200 welfare lump payment in April

In February, Cabinet approved a massive €410m social protection package.

This €200 lump sum payment will be given to people who are on social welfare support for longer than a year.

The same groups who received the Christmas bonus in 2022 are in line for this latest support amount, such as Jobseeker's Allowance, Carer's Allowance, and more.

Meanwhile, an extra €200 will also be paid to people who receive the Working Family Payment and do not qualify for the extra payment based on another social welfare payment.

It should be noted that you can only get one €200 payment even if you get more than one social welfare payment.

An exact date is yet to be confirmed for its arrival. However, it is believed it will be in peoples' accounts along with their regular social welfare payments, before the end of April.

Child Benefit

The Child Benefit boost is due on June 6, 2023, according to the Irish Government.

There is a bank holiday on Monday, June 5, so this money will likely be visible in bank accounts earlier.

Recipients could receive the social welfare payment and the €100 bonus as early as June 2.

Back-to-School Clothing and Footwear Allowance

The Back to School payment boost is set to be in bank accounts for June 2023.

In 2023, the BSCFA which will be given for each eligible child aged 4-11 on September 30, will be €260.

The payment for each eligible child aged 12-22 on September 30 will be €385.

Children aged between 18 and 22 years must be returning to full-time second-level education in a recognised school or college in the autumn of 2023.
