Budget 2023 saw the expansion of a range of social welfare schemes, including the Working Family Payment.
The working family payment is a weekly tax-free payment for employees with children. In order to qualify, you must meet a certain weekly income threshold that depends on how many children you have.
Those who are self-employed do not qualify for the payment. The payment you get is 60% of the difference between your average weekly family income and the Working Family Payment income limit for your family size.
Budget 2023 announced significant changes to the Working Family Payment. The income limits for each family size will increase by €40 across all family sizes from January 2023, making many more families eligible for the payment.
It was also announced in Budget 2023 that those already availing of the payment will receive a once-off lump sum of €500 this November. Here's a breakdown of the current income limits for the payment and how they will change in January 2023:
Current weekly family income limits to qualify for WFP
