Social welfare Ireland: Exact dates for payment changes for Easter 2023

The Easter weekend is almost upon us, and while thousands will look forward to the three-day break from work there will be some changes to social welfare over the holidays.

The Department of Social Protection has confirmed to Dublin Live that this year over the Easter break there will be several changes to when people can expect their social welfare payments in their bank and post office accounts. Payments that are most likely to change date include pension, child benefit, and casual jobseeker's arrangement.

Opening hours for Post Offices and Intreo Offices will also differ over the bank holiday. Here is how your social welfare payment may be affected by the Easter holidays.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Social Protection said: "The payment date for your social welfare payment may change over the Easter holiday period. Most social welfare payments that are due to be paid on Friday 7 April or Monday 10 April, will be paid on Thursday 6 April instead.

"The payment dates for all social welfare payments will return to normal from Tuesday 11 April 2023," she added. Meanwhile, all Intreo Centres and Branch Offices will be closed on Good Friday, 7 April and Easter Monday, 10 April 2023. Banks will also be closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday.

All offices will reopen as normal on Tuesday 11 April 2023.

Post Office payment arrangements for Pension

If your pension payment is due to be paid at a post office on bank holiday Monday, it is likely you will be paid on Tuesday, 11 April. All post offices will be closed on bank holiday Monday 10 April and will then reopen as normal on Tuesday, 11 April.

Credit Union payments

Any welfare payments that are due to be paid into bank accounts or credit unions will be paid on Tuesday, 11 April.

Child Benefit

Parents and guardians could can expect to receive their Child Benefit payment on the first Tuesday of each month so will be paid on Tuesday, 4 April.

Casual Jobseeker's Arrangements

According to the Department of Social Protection, EFT payments and cheques for casual jobseeker's will be processed on Thursday 6 April 2023.

To avoid any disruption to your payment, you must submit your declaration for the week ending 4/5 April by:

  • 4pm on Thursday 6 April for online submissions
  • 12pm on Thursday 6 April for paper docket submissions

If you submit your declaration before this deadline, your payment will be available for collection or in your bank account by Wednesday 12 April. If you can't provide your expected work pattern before this deadline, you can still submit your declaration as normal. However, your payment will be delayed as a result of this.

Most social welfare payments that are due to be paid on Friday 7 April or Monday 10 April, will be paid on Thursday 6 April instead. The payment dates for all social welfare payments will return to normal from Tuesday 11 April 2023.
