The Tennessee Titans are on the cusp of making a surprising move, with the team set to part ways with defensive lineman Teair Tart.
The Titans haven’t officially made the move just yet, but the decision was first reported by Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky and has since been confirmed by Tart himself via a post on social media.
Per the report, the Titans were unhappy with Tart’s attitude, effort and overall conditioning, while the Florida International product was unhappy with not getting a contract extension instead of the $4.3 million tender Tennessee placed on him during the offseason.
This situation had been bubbling for a while, with Tart posting some cryptic tweets during the year that seemed to express his displeasure with the situation.
Kuharsky is also reporting that Tart had lost the respect of his teammates and the Titans tried to trade him at the deadline, but to no avail.
More on Tear Tart:
💥Am told he had lost the respect of teammates.
💥#Titans looked to deal him at deadline and struggled to generate any interest. https://t.co/MQbwXGdjQ6— Paul Kuharsky (@PaulKuharskyNFL) December 16, 2023
Here’s how Titans social media reacted when the news first broke.
Whoa… situation really reached a boiling point. Good young player.
Owed $950K for rest of season on RFA tender. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a playoff team add him after he clears waivers, but obviously more going on here.
Lions, Cowboys, Chiefs maybe https://t.co/aUR2T2UYLf

Talented player who could really help someone, such as the shorthanded Titans on Sunday. https://t.co/o3aHYQCbTy

This is unfortunate, Tart has so much potential. Great article by the way Paul. #titans https://t.co/AM7TBpaehr

Wow, great reporting by Paul.
Have seen this simmering since August, but I didn’t expect it to reach a breaking point before the end of the season.
The #Titans are moving forward without their premiere run-stuffing NT… https://t.co/WbEzYWNl8Q

Hate this because we know how good of a player Tart is, but that doesn’t mean anything when he is a headache to the team. The quotes from Vrabel, Williams and Autry tell you everything. https://t.co/qxSZDrQSv6

Mike Vrabel told us to "not read too much into" the Tart situation.
Looks like we should be reading into it. #Titans https://t.co/gP9eIbr4bN

Teair Tart has had 3 NFL agents since entering the league. He most recently hired Drew Rosenhaus.
Tart was upset about his money, but ironically, his approach to the situation will cost him money. https://t.co/fiZR1Pv35r

Wow, Tart is solid as hell on the interior. Should be picked up by a contender immediately https://t.co/wHXhfdXaik

Kinda always felt big Jeff was pointing at tart https://t.co/eN9IN3pE4J

Wow it seriously boiled over to this extent? Long term culture move that will genuinely hurt the #Titans this year. https://t.co/1ga579BGKN

Great example of how to fumble the bag by Tart this year 🙄 https://t.co/WCmWXZBoHc

Why??? He’s been solid and you’re shorthanded without Simmons. Very questionable move and odd timing from the #Titans. https://t.co/ADanLkPGDQ

Damn man. This is ending worse than I even expected. Didn’t even finish the season. https://t.co/QX5zZqc03Q

Tart can ball …would be an awesome add for a team with playoff aspirations this late in the season https://t.co/fKZdQguFRv
