Donald Trump's latest claim about his debate with Kamala Harris has stirred up a social media frenzy.
In his first in-studio appearance on Fox News' Gutfield!, while discussing the moderators' alleged unfair treatment of him, Trump said the moderators "didn't correct [Kamala Harris] once" while fact-checking "practically" everything he said.
"The audience was absolutely, they went crazy," Trump said.
Many social media users were quick to mock Trump, pointing out that the televised debate did not have a live audience, while others defended the former President, claiming he was referring to TV audiences, not in-person.
Users took to X to share their reactions to Trump's statement. One user said the potential mix-up was proof the presidential hopeful is "seriously mentally diminished."
trump claims crowd went crazy at the debate because he was being fact checked. He is seriously mentally diminished. There was no crowd at the debate. There was no audience. DUMP TRUMP he is not fit to be president.

Trump said the audience at the debate was angry that they kept fact checking him.

There was no audience. #TrumpHasDementia
Trump is now claiming there was an audience at a debate that had no audience and for some reason stuff like this is treated a lot differently than Biden making gaffes nowhere near as ridiculous https://t.co/nBqbqll8Ly

Dear MAGA, So what's going to be the excuse for your orange savior lying or fantasizing that there was an audience at the debate? Is he a senile old man imagining things or a lying con man? There are no other choices. https://t.co/7Vg9TYFGrf

Another echoed claims that Trump is mentally unfit to be president while also calling out Gutfield! for not correcting him.
@Gutfeldfox you totally nailed it with Trump. Afraid to correct his lies. What debate crowd went crazy. He's losing it mentally idiot. Fix the entertainment station for all the stupid people.

X user @dan__i defended Trump's claim, asking "What do you call the people at home watching? The ones watching and posting to x, insta, Facebook and TikTok?"
Um sir, lol, he's had time to assess; this interview was tonight, not during the debate, lol

But X user @2Derrick18 asked if the user believes Trump genuinely tracked real-time social media reactions.
So you think Trump stood in front of a computer and analyzed at what point during The debate the crowd went crazy or not? Lmao! I bet you $100 Trump doesn't even know how to use Microsoft Word.

While other users also defended Trump's claim, but not necessarily his wording.
This is foolish. Your own clip does not support what you claim. He did not say "at the debate." In fact, he literally referred to the 75 million audience members that whatched on TV. This is a perfect example of what pushes more and more people away from the Democrats. You are...

Just because the debate was closed to an open audience, doesn't mean there wasn't anybody in the crowd. He saw heard them as he was leaving when the debate was finished & when he walked off to the backstage he was immediately greeted by a raging audience of reporters, and...

Hate to be that guy, but Trump could be talking about the audience watching at home. His supporters were freaking out at how much he was fact checked and he read how they were after the debate. He could have worded it better, but he is the oldest candidate running for president
