Social media baffled by Cillian Murphy's baseball doppelganger

Celebrity lookalikes are somewhat common, as in ordinary people who look like celebrities - some people even make a living off having similar features to stars. Many people may remember the viral baby last year who looked a little bit like Woody Harrelson.

Two celebrities looking like each other though, is not as common - as many people pointed out in a post on Twitter.

People around the micro-blogging platform were losing their collective minds on Saturday after a picture of baseball player Tyler Glasnow did the rounds, with many people pointing out that he looks almost the same as Cillian Murphy.

Irish comedian Seán Burke, a part of the Irish sketch show No Worries If Not, retweeted a picture of the Tampa Bay Rays pitcher alongside the caption: “Absolutely stunned by the fact this is NOT Cillian Murphy.”

Although his hair is a bit longer, the facial feature resemblance is uncanny and many people flocked to the comments to agree.

One person commented: “I thought it was AI but damn - guess he can guest star on Peaky Blinders any time.”

Jokes continued about the resemblance, with one person posting: “Someone’s parents were out and about…”

While another added: “Scrolling by I thought "Huh, Cillian Murphy in a baseball movie, interesting choice..."

The film puns kept rolling in with two more people making an Oppenheimer reference, one said: “Now we know the next Christopher Nolan film is about baseball.”

While the other posted: “Spent a good 10 seconds searching the quoted tweet to see if it was making a Baseball/Oppenheimer pun.”

Even the Twitter account for Specsavers Ireland chimed in, commenting: “Wiped our glasses five times and it’s still Cillian Murphy.”

Some disagreed, however, with one post simply stating: “Not really”. Another wrote: “You sure about that?”
