West Lothian social enterprise, The Larder, has been awarded £30,000 from a radio group charity in recognition of its work in combating food insecurity in our communities.
The Larder were granted the funds by ‘make some noise’, the official charity wing of media & entertainment group Global - the company behind several of the UK’s largest radio stations like Smooth, Capital, Heart, and LBC.
Grants were distributed to 60 small charities and projects across the UK following fundraising efforts in 2021 - The Larder being one to receive a grant.
The award-winning West Lothian Social Enterprise, was recognised for their commitment to alleviating poverty in the area and supporting anyone who needs their help.
Lauded in particular was their social food project, fighting food insecurity through meal deliveries, dining events, and cook and dine classes under the name ‘Catalyst Kitchen’.
The Larder also provides a space for trainees to gain work experience, a venue for social interaction, cohesion and community, as well as a platform for trading income.
The Larder are members of the West Lothian Food Network, which as a collective, have fed an average of 4042 food insecure individuals since May 2019 - in total providing 2,716,224 meals throughout West Lothian.
It is hoped the grant will increase access to good quality food within disadvantaged communities, encouraging and supporting people to make positive choices about food.
Emma Bradley, Director of ‘Global Goodness’ at Global said: “It’s been an incredibly tough couple of years for everyone.
“With the cost of living continuing to increase, many more people will turn to local groups for help, putting extra strain on their resources.
“So we’re pleased to be able to help small charities at the centre of communities and will continue to raise money and awareness for their vital work.”
